we are the great generation.
we are the great AMERICAN generation.
the great AMERICAN generation is you and me – if you’re a baby boomer.
that’s right. we are the great AMERICAN generation.

the greatEST generation (per tom brokaw) was born during the great depression. fought in world war II. this greatEST generation also included those great people who stayed on the war’s home front and sacrificed greatly to make a real contribution to the war effort.
my mom can tell you all about this generation and their sacrifices.
and my mom (and others like her) raised the GREAT AMERICAN generation.

the great AMERICAN generation is you and me.
yes, we are the great AMERICAN generation. the boomer nation.
properly defined, we were born between 1946 and 1964. and called baby boomers – also called the “pig in the economic python.”
but we are much, much more than just that definition.
we are the music of the ’60s and 70’s.

we are woodstock.
we are “the who.”
we are woodstock.
we are viet nam veterans.
we are jimi hendrick, janis joplin, joe crocker, santana.
… and marvin gaye. hey, what’s going on?
we are the freedom marchers. and the anti-war protesters. and proud veterans. the survivors of agent orange. and defiant riders of harley davidsons. then and now.

we are the cold war.
we are the cold war.
we are raging inflation.
we are the walk on the moon.
we are the cuban missile crisis.
we are the civil rights movement, the protests and riots.
we are gasoline shortages and the long gas lines in the 70’s.

one nation under god. indivisible.
we memorized the pledge of allegiance to the AMERICAN flag. because we repeated it everyday at the beginning of the school day.
we still want to believe we are living in “one nation under god. indivisible. with liberty and justice for all.” we still want to believe.

we did not live quietly.
now we are medicare and social security.
and we feel neglected and forgotten. we feel betrayed by our nation.
we are in a state of denial regarding our health and aging and death.
we believed in this country. we fought. we died. and now we “are sent to the back of the line.”
we received a 0.2% increase in social security benefits. a 0.2% increase? how do you calculate a 0.2% increase ?
a 0.2% increase will buy us one bagel at Panera Bread. almost.
we did not live quietly.
we will not go quietly.
